Jody A Long, LPA, LCAS, CCS

Jody Long, mental health therapist

We all have our cages. Some cages show up unexpectedly, others have confined us our whole life. At times we are able to navigate our way out on our own, while other times we feel trapped, or have been stuck there so long it's comfortable. You are not destined to be a bird trapped in a cage. Over the past decade I've helped folks navigate issues to include: trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, addiction, a life adjustment, and legal involvement. My favorite part of being a therapist is watching folks gain confidence and flex their wings despite their struggles.

My background and training is in psychology and substance use treatment. I hold licenses in both of these areas, as well as a certification to supervise provisionally licensed substance abuse counselors and specialists. I use Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and teach DBT skills, which is a technical way of saying I help people foster motivation to change behaviors and challenge unhelpful ways of thinking.

I am extremely passionate about helping people understand the dynamics of mental health, substance use concerns, and how stress and trauma can impact someone's sense of well-being. I have had the privilege to support individuals from many backgrounds facing a wide range of issues. I believe stigma is a huge barrier that prevents so many people from reaching out for help and my vow to you is to provide a non-judgmental, safe space for folks from all walks of life. Cageless was born so that I would have the flexibility to provide therapy as well as to be a support and resource to foster knowledge, decrease stigma, and spark dialog in both the professional and lay community.

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY (by telehealth)

Supporting people as they face mental health or substance use challenges has been my passion. No one is immune to the impacts of stress, trauma, mental health or substance use concerns. Whether you find yourself or a loved one impacted, my goal as a therapist is to provide a safe and supportive environment in which you can be your most genuine self and reconnect with your strengths as you face your mountain. You may feel under prepared to face your mountain or not even know where to begin. That is okay! You don't have to make the journey alone. Let me help you develop the tools to get out of your cage. I treat people ages 16 and up, based on clinical fit.

Educating people about mental health is so important to me because I believe that lack of knowledge perpetuates stigma and prevents people from getting the help they need. I enjoy sparking interest about mental health and substance use issues through an open dialog. Whether you are looking for an informal round table discussion or a more formal presentation, I can cater to the needs of your group.

As a Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) through the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board (NCSAPPB), I can provide clinical supervision to individuals registered with the board seeking LCAS licensure and CSAC certification. My supervision style is similar to that of my therapy style: genuine, supportive, and compassionate. Contact me today for rates!

My professional experience has been broad, supporting individuals facing an array of mental health diagnoses exacerbated by experiencing barriers to basic necessities. I have worked extensively in the area of community mental health, working closely with inpatient facilities, emergency and crisis based services, the judicial system, and community providers. If you feel that I could be of support to your agency, organization, or cause, please contact me for rates.

If your insurance is not listed or you’re uninsured, I may still be able to offer you psychological services. Contact me today and see what I can do for you.
